My Trip to the Mississippi Delta

I've always wanted to go visit Mississippi's Delta but for whatever reason, never got around to it. Since, this trip, back home, I've decided to see as many friends, and visit as many places as I can. You just never know when your next chance will be.

Total driving time was about 2 and a half hours. Of course, it took us a bit longer with all the stops on the way. I had already, pretty much, planned out what sort of things I wanted to get photos of before we left. A nice cotton feild was number one on my list, but unfortunately, they had already been harvested. Boo! There were a few peices of cotton still on their stalks but it had rained the night before the trip and all the cotton was "snotted". This term I got from my mother who claims that's what it's called when the cotton gets wet. It's for obvious reasons.
For the record, while taking this photo an 18 wheeler honked his horn and scared the daylights out of me!!
There were a TON of old cotton gins and tiny little churches the whole way.

Number two objective in this trip, go to lunch at Morgan Freeman's restaurant in Clarksdale called Ground Zero. It, almost, seemed like it was in the middle of nowhere and I'm not sure you could have told it was even a place you could stop and eat giving the surroundings. Clarksdale is one of the poorest cities I have ever been to. I don't think there was a building around that wasn't falling apart.

“You are now at a crossroads. This is your opportunity to make the most important decision you will ever make. Forget your past. Who are you now? Who have you decided you really are now? Don't think about who you have been. Who are you now? Who have you decided to become? Make this decision consciously. Make it carefully. Make it powerfully.”

I suppose it's good to be home.
Next photo adventure on my list...New Orleans. :)

Bear Island, NC

Took a trip out to Bear Island, today. It was so pretty! Ive lived in Eastern NC, on and off, for over 10 years, and I NEVER knew this place existed until a client pointed out Hammocks Beach State Park. But eventhen, it wasnt untill today that I found out that you can take a ferry from that park to the island. Who knew!! Not me!

Because of a hurricane passing in the Atlantic, (which one I dont know, because I dont keep up with them all unless theyre headed our way!), the waves were HUGE, today!! I already have a weird fear of the ocean. I dont know why. To me, it feels so unpredictable. Its as if its alive. It breaths, in and out. Its waves as arms reaching in to grab you and take you in. ...And all the animals that live inside it. Its a whole world that I dont belong to.

I may be one of the least relaxed people to be on the beach. You wouldnt know it by looking at me, but trust me when I tell you, the ocean weirds me out to no end. It just does. lol

Venor Model~Mini Session~Tyron Palace

A friend/client asked me to take some photos of her daughter in some bows that she had made for her boutique, Halyee's Boutique. We decided to go to the Tyron Palace because on the first Sunday of every month, its free. I hadnt gone in years, but I knew that there was a pretty garden in the back and I wanted to use it for these photos. Im soo glad we did! I love how the photos came out. Taking photos of any 2 year old is a tough job. They are always moving and they, usually, do their own thing. Sometimes, most of the time, you have to be tricky to get their attention. With lil' Haylee, I helped her hunt "yeehaws", (horses). I told her that if she held her flowers and sat quietly, a yeehaw might come along and eat them. And so, she held them, and would quietly call, "yeehaws...". It was the cutest.

~Jennifer and Alex~ Atlantic Beach, NC Wedding

Guess who, finally, got to shoot a wedding?! Yup, me! I was so happy when Jen asked me to do her wedding. I have to admit, I was pretty nervous. But, now that Ive done one...I want to do more! It was so much fun! Now I know why there are always more than one photographer at a wedding. This one was super small and I was all over the place trying to catch every detail and every moment. I didnt want to miss a thing.

Dont they make an attractive couple? And both, super nice. I met Jen when I first moved to NC. She was one of my first clients here. I did photos of her and her little "man child". Thankfully, when I needed someone to take a look at my car, before going on a roadtrip, she and her now, handsome hubby, took the time to help me out. So, I would say that Ive made some new friends. Go me. ;)

Heres a video, that Jen brought to my attention, where you can see me in action at her wedding! You have to skip to the end. If you blink, youll miss me...but Im there, atleast! lol

Val and Her Cakes

Meet my new friend, Val. I met her while taking photos of her son's birthday party. She make THE best cupcakes I have EVER eaten in my LIFE. I'm not just saying that because she's my friend. You could say that I am her friend to get closer to these sweet morsels. ...I kid I kid! (I know she's reading this..) ;)

We have started taking early morning walks, together, with the kids to get back in shape. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to do that being tempted by her yummy cupcakes. Must...have...will power!
